iHeart offers flexible appointments with GPs and Nurses

The i-HEART Barnsley project is a service providing NHS care services to the people of Barnsley being delivered by the Barnsley Healthcare Federation.

The Federation is a partnership of GP practices working with the Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group and local healthcare providers.

This is a pilot scheme to create new appointments for patients whilst offering them a range of different consultation methods. The i-HEART Barnsley service has been developed using patient/public feedback, local health needs analysis combined with Barnsley Health and Wellbeing Board and the local Clinical Commissioning Group priorities.

These new services include:

• A dedicated Barnsley telephone number for patients/public to call
• Assessment and advice by a clinician over the telephone
• Flexible appointments times at evenings and weekends
• Consultations through different channels (email, telephone, virtual video and face to face)

Who they are

Heart Research UK - a local national charity based in Leeds. They have been helping hearts locally for almost 50 years.

We were created after heart surgeon David Watson realised that patients were dying unnecessarily because of the lack of research into heart disease.  He wanted to do more so set up the National Heart Research Fund – now Heart Research UK.

Since then, we've continued to fund ground-breaking medical research as well as helping communities to improve their lifestyles through our Healthy Heart grants - encouraging people to live healthier, happier and longer lives.

How we spend your money
In the last 10 years the charity has provided funding of more than £10.2million for pioneering research projects in hospitals and universities across the UK, helping to develop new treatments and procedures that have helped improve outcomes for people suffering with heart disease.
